Millions of Republicans feel betrayed by Arizona Senator John McCain after he shot down the Obamacare repeal bill last month. These feelings against McCain boiled over during Donald Trump’s rally in Phoenix last night, where one of his supporters screamed that McCain “needs to die now.”
It didn’t take long for the McCain family to respond.
This Trump supporter is shouting at protestors: ‘McCain needs to die now!” reporter David Catanese tweeted yesterday afternoon, according to Daily Mail.
McCain’s daughter Meghan, a Fox News host, was quick to respond to this on her own Twitter page.
“I wouldn’t wish seeing this about your own father on my worst enemy. May God help these people who inflict such cruelty in the world,” she wrote.
McCain is currently battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Trump also slammed McCain during the rally, calling the senator out for being the deciding vote against the Obamacare repeal. Though he did not name names, it was clear he was talking about McCain.
“One vote away! I will not mention any names,” Trump said, adding that his choice to not say McCain’s name was “very presidential.”
“We were one vote away. Think of it —seven years. One vote away from repeal,” Trump added. “One vote. Speak to your senator. Please. Speak to your senator.”
Trump also targeted Arizona Senator Jeff Flake.
“And nobody wants me to talk about your other senator, who’s weak on borders, weak on crime, so I won’t talk about him,” he said of Flake. “Nobody wants me to talk about him. Nobody knows who the hell he is. And now, see, I haven’t mentioned any names. So now, everybody’s happy.”
